WHAT CAN I SEE?

Archaeology of Teotihuacan

Pyramid of the Sun:

The Pyramid of the Sun at Teotihuacan was built in the first century BC and is slightly smaller than the Great Pyramid of Cheops, millions of stones were used in its construction and is designed to match the two days a year (May 19 to July 25) when the sun hits directly to the pyramid noon. In 1971 archaeologists found a cave (closed to the public) supposedly formed by a cave underground and there is speculation that was used as a sanctuary where he carried out various types of rituals.

Pyramid of the Moon:

This pyramid appears to be as high as the sun that is built on higher ground, was built a few meters later, you think that was erected just after the end of the sun. Needless to say, the best view of Teotihuacan is obtained just the tip of the pyramid of the moon where you can admire the grandeur of its construction.

Pyramid of Quetzalcoatl:
This construction is observed and is presented right from the entrance, at first glance this appears to be quite complex than the other two pyramids, but everything is a visual effect, if you make a walk to the rear of the building you will find a pyramid that was constructed between AD 1 and 135 DP, the temple has images of Tlaloc (rain god) and Quetzalcoatl (Feathered Serpent).

WHAT IS IT?

Teotihuacan, which in Nahuatl means "City of the Gods" or "The place where gods are made" is one of the most impressive in Mexico and the world, being the place where the spiritual and material Mesoamerican peoples, generated the highest expression of architecture, urban planning and art in the Americas.

This archaeological site is a large number of palaces like Quetzalpapalotl and several well-preserved murals that tell us in a very refined and beautiful the way you see the world in this culture, it disappeared mysteriously, apparently for a number of social and climatic factors that caused his fall from the eighth century AD

The impressive archaeological site of Teotihuacan is located north of Mexico City and can be accessed via the road to Pachuca. As in Cuicuilco or Chichen Itza archaeological site in the festivals are held on the vernal equinox.
The trip from Mexico City to Teotihuacan is not far away, approximately 50 km.

TEOTIHUACAN "THE CITY OF THE GODS"

Welcome to the Teotihuacan Home Page! We have created this site to offer the general public  around the world access to information about this ancient city.
Teotihuacan was inscribed on the List of World Heritage by UNESCO in 1987. This is the archaeological site with the highest influx of tourists, up from sites like Chichen Itza or Monte Alban. Despite what might be assumed from the large number of restored monuments that make up the site, Teotihuacan archaeological excavations continue to this day, and have resulted in a gradual increase in the quality and quantity of knowledge you have on this city, which, of course, unknown issues as important as its original name and the ethnic affiliation of its founders. It is known, however, was a cosmopolitan city by the documented presence of groups from the Gulf Coast or the Central Valleys of Oaxaca.
